We have a passion for living locally and believe that shopping small makes a big impact. Finding those little local treasures is one of our favorite pastimes. In honor of Black History Month, we’re sharing some not-to-be-missed Black-owned shops and businesses in three of our favorite walkable cities: Atlanta, Seattle, and Austin.

Atlanta

A private fitness studio founded in 2010 by mother-and-daughter fitness duo, Ellen and Lana Ector. Built on the idea that fitness should be a part of ones’ D.N.A., Gymnetics Fitness offers personalized nutritional advice, customized weight loss programs and a workout regime that is totally unique to you and your body.

Atlanta’s first designer collective. All handmade. Modern. Made local. A place where designers can come to learn, grow, network, and flourish. A place where area residents can come to learn a craft, have a party, and meet those who make the things they love. 

Seattle

Footprint Wine Tap @footprintwinetap 1222 E Madison St, Suite C Seattle's first and only sustainable keg wine-on-tap bar and shop sourcing fine PNW wines and food for your palate pleasures. A sustainability-focused small business and practice offering local wine and food while reducing their carbon footprint as much as possible.

Marjorie restaurant @marjorieseattle 1412 E Union Serving up food for the soul nightly with warm hospitality, cart cocktails, and patio and private dining in Seattle. The cooking at Marjorie reflects the freshness and seasonality of foods primarily grown and harvested in the Pacific Northwest.

Percussion farms & reserves growing community @percussionfarms 507 28th Ave

This mission-minded farm works to undo racism and other oppressions that prevent access to nutrition and healthy spaces for people of color. In addition to growing healthy produce, this urban farm provides gardening and food preservation classes, employment, and volunteer programs for people exiting the prison system.

Austin

You + Brie, LLC Graze Box and Picnic Experience @youandbrie

A charcuterie/graze box company that caters to the individual and small intimate gatherings. You + Brie prides itself on sourcing local produce and products from merchants in the Austin, TX area and other vendors.

Melanted Market Place @melantedmarketplace 1106 East 11th St

Melanted Market Place is a space for the Black and brown businesses of the Austin area to sell, promote, and network with like-minded entrepreneurs. Through monthly gatherings (now gone virtual), the Melanted Market Place connects the Black and brown entrepreneurs of the Austin community and gives them a platform to connect with consumers.
